JOHN BEST, CEO, BEST INNOVATION GROUP

John Best is the CEO of Best Innovation Group (BIG), a consultancy with a mission to help credit unions create a culture of innovation in their organizations. He is also the host of BIGCast, a weekly podcast focusing on the latest topics in fin-tech. Prior to BIG, Best was the CTO of Wescom Resources Group, the technology CUSO of Wescom Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the country. He has also served as Vice President, E-Business at GTE Federal Credit Union, and prior to that served as a senior network engineer at Suncoast Schools Credit Union. He has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He lives in Colorado with his wife and two children. In his spare time, John loves to play guitar and build drones.

ELIZABETH ROBINS, PRODUCT DIRECTOR, BEST INNOVATION GROUP

Elizabeth Robins is a passionate evangelist for new technology solutions in the financial sector. With a background in both Computer Science and Marketing, she is able to view product development through a broad lens and collaborate across teams to find innovative solutions. As a Senior Product Manager at Symitar, Elizabeth led the Amazon Echo and Apple Watch solutions for Episys which bring financial services to voice-activated and wearable technology. While with Diebold, her team successfully launched a video solution directed at ATMs in financial institutions, expanding the transactions available to members. As part of the Best Innovation Group team, Elizabeth brings her expertise in product management to a portfolio of exciting new products for the financial industry. Elizabeth holds a MS in Computer Information Systems from University of Phoenix and a BS in Marketing from Oakland University.

DR. JOSEPH BREEDEN, COO AND CHAIRMAN, DEEP FUTURE ANALYTICS

Dr. Breeden has been designing and deploying risk management systems for loan portfolios since 1996. He founded Prescient Models in 2011, focusing on portfolio and loan-level forecasting solutions for pricing, account management, CCAR, and CECL. He co-founded Deep Future Analytics in 2013 as a CUSO to bring solutions to credit unions and community banks.

He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Risk Model Validation and for the Journal of Credit Risk., and a founding board member of the Model Risk Management International Association (mrmia.org).

He has published over 50 academic articles, 6 patents, and 4 books. His new books, Living with CECL: Mortgage Modeling Alternatives and Living with CECL: The Modeling Dictionary were published in 2018. Dr. Breeden received separate BS degrees in mathematics and physics in 1987 from Indiana University. He earned a Ph.D. in physics in 1991 from the University of Illinois studying real-world applications of chaos theory and genetic algorithms.

LOU GRILLI, AVP OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AT TRELLANCE

Lou is the AVP of Product Development & Thought Leadership at Trellance. In this role, he is responsible for managing the organization’s product portfolio, as well as providing leadership on industry trends related to data analytics and payments.

Prior to joining Trellance, Lou was Director of Mobile Products within the North American Retail Payments division at FIS. There he was responsible for enabling seamless access from smartphones and tablets to FIS products and services. He was also Director of Mobile Payment Solutions at American Express.

Lou holds an MBA from Duke, a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Florida, and a BA from Boston University in Computer Science.

 

PETER WARREN SINGER, STRATEGIST, NEW AMERICA

Peter Warren Singer is Strategist at New America. He has been named by the Smithsonian as one of the nation’s 100 leading innovators, by Defense News as one of the 100 most influential people in defense issues, by Foreign Policy to their Top 100 Global Thinkers List, as an official “Mad Scientist” for the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, and by Onalytica social media data analysis as one of the ten most influential voices in the world on cybersecurity and 25th most influential in the field of robotics. Peter’s award winning books include Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry, Children at War, Wired for War: The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century; and Cybersecurity and Cyberwar: What Everyone Needs to Know and Ghost Fleet: A Novel of the Next World War, a technothriller crossed with nonfiction research, which has been endorsed by people who range from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to the co-inventor of the Internet to the writer of HBO Game of Thrones. His latest book is LikeWar (Oct 2018, HMH), which explores how social media has changed war and politics, and war and politics has changed social media. His past work include serving at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Harvard University, an editor at Popular Science magazine, and as the founding director of the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence at Brookings, where he was the youngest person named senior fellow in its 100 year history. 

ROGER A. GRIMES, DATA-DRIVEN DEFENSE EVANGELIST - KEYNOTE

Roger A. Grimes, Data-Driven Defense Evangelist for KnowBe4, Inc., is a 30-year computer security consultant, instructor, holder of dozens of computer certifications, and author of 10 books and over 1,000 magazine articles on computer security. He has spoken at many of the world’s biggest computer security conferences, been in Newsweek™ magazine, appeared on television, been interviewed for NPR’s All Things Considered™, and been a guest on dozens of radio shows and podcasts. He has worked at some of the world’s largest computer security companies, including Foundstone, McAfee, and Microsoft. He has consulted for hundreds of companies, from the largest to the smallest, around the world. He specializes in host and network security, identity management, anti-malware, hackers, honeypots, Public Key Infrastructure, cloud security, cryptography, policy, and technical writing. His certifications have included CPA, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CEH, MSCE: Security, Security+, and yada-yada others, and he has been an instructor for many of them. His writings and presentations are often known for their real-world, contrarian views. He has been the weekly security columnist for InfoWorld and CSO magazines since 2005.  

BRIAN LEY, FOUNDER & CEO, ALPHARANK

Brian Ley, of Cary, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, has always been interested in how people’s behaviors, emotions, and spending habits affect a business’ success. In May of 2015, he combined his education and fascination to create Alpharank, a data-driven growth platform that helps small banks and credit unions increase deposits and grow their membership by mapping customer connections. They use financial institutions transactional data to find patterns and build graphs that group people with similar behaviors into communities. In turn, creating a target audience for specific marketing campaigns. Alpharank, which was officially launched in 2017 at Finovate, was voted the “Best New Technology” by 1,000 bankers. Two of their current investors include FIS and Wells Fargo. Its success in such a short period of time is what led Brian to be named the 2017 Top Innovator by Bank Innovation Magazine.

PAUL MADSEN, TECHNICAL LEAD, HEDERA HASHGRAPH

Paul Madsen is a technical lead at Hedera Hashgraph, the public DLT built on the hashgraph consensus algorithm. Madsen has participated in various design, chairing, editing and education roles for a number of identity standards, including OASIS SAML, OAuth 2.0 and FIDO Alliance. He holds a M.S. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Carleton University and the University of Western Ontario, respectively.

 

Belinda Caillouet, FOUNDER & CEO, Looking Glass Consulting

Belinda Caillouet is an executive leader with 31 years of experience championing the credit union difference. A trusted technology partner and leader; she builds strong teams, leading and inspiring employees, and challenging them to reach their full potential. In 2018, Belinda started Looking Glass Consulting; a firm focused on meeting the complex technology needs of credit unions, FinTechs, and established vendors across the country, as well as providing leadership coaching. Prior to starting her consulting business, Belinda held the position of Chief Operations and Information Officer at STCU, where she oversaw the technology, operations, and retail divisions of the credit union.
