JOHN BEST, CEO, BEST INNOVATION GROUP

John Best is the CEO of Best Innovation Group (BIG), a consultancy with a mission to help credit unions create a culture of innovation in their organizations. He is also the host of BIGCast, a weekly podcast focusing on the latest topics in fin-tech. Prior to BIG, Best was the CTO of Wescom Resources Group, the technology CUSO of Wescom Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the country. He has also served as Vice President, E-Business at GTE Federal Credit Union, and prior to that served as a senior network engineer at Suncoast Schools Credit Union. He has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He lives in Colorado with his wife and two children. In his spare time, John loves to play guitar and build drones.

DR. JOSEPH BREEDEN, COO AND CHAIRMAN, DEEP FUTURE ANALYTICS

Dr. Breeden has been designing and deploying risk management systems for loan portfolios since 1996. He founded Prescient Models in 2011, focusing on portfolio and loan-level forecasting solutions for pricing, account management, CCAR, and CECL. He co-founded Deep Future Analytics in 2013 as a CUSO to bring solutions to credit unions and community banks.

He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Risk Model Validation and for the Journal of Credit Risk., and a founding board member of the Model Risk Management International Association (mrmia.org).

He has published over 50 academic articles, 6 patents, and 4 books. His new books, Living with CECL: Mortgage Modeling Alternatives and Living with CECL: The Modeling Dictionary were published in 2018. Dr. Breeden received separate BS degrees in mathematics and physics in 1987 from Indiana University. He earned a Ph.D. in physics in 1991 from the University of Illinois studying real-world applications of chaos theory and genetic algorithms.

LOU GRILLI, AVP OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AT TRELLANCE

Lou is the AVP of Product Development & Thought Leadership at Trellance. In this role, he is responsible for managing the organization’s product portfolio, as well as providing leadership on industry trends related to data analytics and payments.

Prior to joining Trellance, Lou was Director of Mobile Products within the North American Retail Payments division at FIS. There he was responsible for enabling seamless access from smartphones and tablets to FIS products and services. He was also Director of Mobile Payment Solutions at American Express.

Lou holds an MBA from Duke, a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Florida, and a BA from Boston University in Computer Science.

Jack Smith, Technology Sales and Operations Executive, Pure IT CUSO - Cyber Security Track

Jack has over 20 years of Sales, Operations and Delivery experience in the Technology Services industry. Jack has served in various leadership positions as Co-Founder and President of Facilitek Services (now Genuent,a Willis Group Company), Director of Sales for Glasshouse Technologies, Director of Business Operations for TEKSystems, and currently Co-Founder and President of Purity Technology, LLC.Jack has proven track record of building a go to market strategy, hiring the right team members, and executing the strategy to grow revenue and profits in multiple types of IT services, and geographical regions. He has helped build a startup from greenfield to $30 million in revenue in 3 years, helped grow a company from $20 million to $120 million in 2 years, and grew and ran operations of a region doing $75 million in revenue.

Robbie Wright, CEO, Purity Technology - Cyber Security Track

Robbie’s security-first mindset is driven by his passion for problem solving and desire to attack new banking challenges. Community financial institutions make attractive targets for potential digital threats, and Robbie holds a deep conviction for protecting the vulnerabilities of both businesses and their consumers. With 15 years in the credit union space, he has established expertise both in a credit union, and as a vendor affiliate. Robbie applies impeccable operational front-line knowledge to strategic security conversations, creating dynamic systems that are both secure and user friendly.

Currently sitting on the board of directors for a community bank, Robbie holds his CISSP certification, is the chairman for his city’s economic development committee, and is the CEO of Purity Technology, a leader security-first consultancy for financial institutions.

Trent Henson, CTO, PureIT CUSO - Cyber Security Track

Trent has over twenty years of experience designing advanced network architectures and web-based data management interfaces that improve business operations, service quality, and cost effectiveness. As Pure IT's CTO, Trent works closely with clients to architect the optimal solution that improves operational efficiency and security, while containing cost. During this time, he has assisted credit unions ranging from $100 million to $10 billion in assets with strategic technology roadmaps, systems and architecture design, and cloud methodologies and strategies. Trent has functioned as acting/interim CTO for credit unions.

Trent has held several executive positions in the IT industry, where he became an expert in advising clients on strategic technology initiatives for promoting business growth. Prior to Pure IT, Trent served as the CIO for Asgard Cloud Services, CTO of Health Information Partners, a technology offshoot of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

He owned his own company, BlueInk Technologies for over a decade after selling his previous partnership, EdView to Apple Computers. Henson also founded TriPrima, Inc., a company that provides small to medium size businesses with enterprise-quality IT hosting services at a more affordable rate, by converting capital expenditures into low operating expenses through the use of cloud technologies. These resources include highly available and secure virtual infrastructures, networking and software support, processing power, application management and storage. TriPrima successfully designed and deployed an open standards-based telemedicine system, VisiTran, which provides a conduit for the exchange of various data between multiple healthcare systems. He also worked with Purity Technology, LLC to design and implement a new micro cloud architecture and service for highly regulated industries such as credit unions.

Pamela Norton, Founder & CEO Borsetta

Pamela Norton is an American entrepreneur, inventor, disrupter, social activist, and visionary who believes business and social impact are interdependent. Pamela is the Founder & CEO of Borsetta, a blockchain asset management platform creating a new "equity asset" class with an array of unique nano-markers to secure the asset.

Borsetta's patent pending technology connects the physical real-world asset class into the new decentralized economy of tokenized and securitized titled assets for the world. Pamela is also a pioneer in the development and launching of early stage disruptive technologies that create new and better services for consumers and businesses in the healthcare, telecommunications, transportation, and e-commerce sectors. Her clients ranged from emerging brands to Fortune 500 companies including United Airlines, IBM, AT&T and American Express. In 1999, Pamela co-founded an Internet access service for airports and other transportation hubs, which was acquired by a European communications conglomerate during the peak of the dot com market.

Pamela is a sought after speaker and decentralized economy enthusiast, sharing her insights on blockchain technology, disruptive markets, sustainability, social impact and new funding models to empower women led ventures. Pamela holds a BS degree in International Business from Regis University and International Relations at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. Pamela begins an executive course for Scaling Ventures at Harvard University this spring.

Kevin Landel, Senior Vice President and CIO, Patelco Credit Union

Kevin Landel is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for $6.9 billion Patelco Credit Union, based in Pleasanton, California, responsible for technology innovation and strategy. Over the last five years, Kevin has overseen a rebuild and resurgence of technical innovation at Patelco, including a shift from home-grown solutions to a platform strategy that brought new lending, core and digital delivery platforms online. His work includes the transformation of the credit union to a digitally-driven, team-based Agile environment. Kevin is also focused on providing data-driven financial health solutions for Patelco’s members and creating a streamlined omni-channel experience for all of their respective financial services needs. Other research areas at Patelco include AI, chatbots and blockchain.

Prior to financial services, Kevin was a principal in an interactive television startup as well as another startup in the digital music distribution arena that was acquired. He is an alumnus of the MIT Media Lab and the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Kevin also holds a patent for computer video display technology and has served on advisory boards for Fiserv, CO-OP, Alkami, CUISPA and others.

 

PETER WARREN SINGER, STRATEGIST, NEW AMERICA

Peter Warren Singer is Strategist at New America. He has been named by the Smithsonian as one of the nation’s 100 leading innovators, by Defense News as one of the 100 most influential people in defense issues, by Foreign Policy to their Top 100 Global Thinkers List, as an official “Mad Scientist” for the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, and by Onalytica social media data analysis as one of the ten most influential voices in the world on cybersecurity and 25th most influential in the field of robotics. ROGER A. GRIMES, DATA-DRIVEN DEFENSE EVANGELIST - KEYNOTE

Roger A. Grimes, Data-Driven Defense Evangelist for KnowBe4, Inc., is a 30-year computer security consultant, instructor, holder of dozens of computer certifications, and author of 10 books and over 1,000 magazine articles on computer security. He has spoken at many of the world’s biggest computer security conferences, been in Newsweek™ magazine, appeared on television, been interviewed for NPR’s All Things Considered™, and been a guest on dozens of radio shows and podcasts. He has worked at some of the world’s largest computer security companies, including Foundstone, McAfee, and Microsoft. He has consulted for hundreds of companies, from the largest to the smallest, around the world. He specializes in host and network security, identity management, anti-malware, hackers, honeypots, Public Key Infrastructure, cloud security, cryptography, policy, and technical writing. His certifications have included CPA, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CEH, MSCE: Security, Security+, and yada-yada others, and he has been an instructor for many of them. His writings and presentations are often known for their real-world, contrarian views. He has been the weekly security columnist for InfoWorld and CSO magazines since 2005.  

Katie King, Miss Metaverse, The Worlds first Futurista®

Katie (Miss Metaverse) King is the world’s first Futurista®, one of the world’s most recognized female futurists, a techno-optimist, marketing strategist, YouTube and Podcast host and content creator, based in New York City. Fans and colleagues describe Katie as a “joyful, disruptive intellect” and “the queen of innovation.” Her background is in filmmaking, having produced and created original content for 11:11 Productions, AEG Productions, and Solaris Entertainment. Katie has collaborated on series for SPIKE, MTV, TruTV, Lifetime, Discovery, Nat Geo, and several others. She was cited as one of the world’s top female futurists by Future Exploration Network and Advanced Human Technologies.

She has spoken at events around the world, from North Dakota to Abu Dhabi, on topics as diverse as the future of work, life extension, human/robot relationships, transhumanism and the future of transportation, to name a few.

In 2013, Katie created and launched the first female hosted futurist TV show called AwesomeFuture.TV (YouTube), focused on what’s going on in today’s world, tomorrow’s future and what it means for our society. BRIAN LEY, FOUNDER & CEO, ALPHARANK

Brian Ley, of Cary, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, has always been interested in how people’s behaviors, emotions, and spending habits affect a business’ success. In May of 2015, he combined his education and fascination to create Alpharank, a data-driven growth platform that helps small banks and credit unions increase deposits and grow their membership by mapping customer connections. They use financial institutions transactional data to find patterns and build graphs that group people with similar behaviors into communities. In turn, creating a target audience for specific marketing campaigns. Alpharank, which was officially launched in 2017 at Finovate, was voted the “Best New Technology” by 1,000 bankers. Two of their current investors include FIS and Wells Fargo. Its success in such a short period of time is what led Brian to be named the 2017 Top Innovator by Bank Innovation Magazine.

PAUL MADSEN, TECHNICAL LEAD, HEDERA HASHGRAPH

Paul Madsen is a technical lead at Hedera Hashgraph, the public DLT built on the hashgraph consensus algorithm. Madsen has participated in various design, chairing, editing and education roles for a number of identity standards, including OASIS SAML, OAuth 2.0 and FIDO Alliance. He holds a M.S. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Carleton University and the University of Western Ontario, respectively.

 

Belinda Caillouet, FOUNDER & CEO, Looking Glass Consulting

Belinda Caillouet is an executive leader with 31 years of experience championing the credit union difference. A trusted technology partner and leader; she builds strong teams, leading and inspiring employees, and challenging them to reach their full potential. In 2018, Belinda started Looking Glass Consulting; a firm focused on meeting the complex technology needs of credit unions, FinTechs, and established vendors across the country, as well as providing leadership coaching. Prior to starting her consulting business, Belinda held the position of Chief Operations and Information Officer at STCU, where she oversaw the technology, operations, and retail divisions of the credit union.

Kyle Stutzman, VP Business Development, Pure IT - Cyber Security Track

Kyle provides a unique Credit Union Industry perspective and background to our team. As a former Credit Union IT leader, he brings our potential clients’ perspective to our business. Over his twelve plus years in the credit union space he has created a network of credit union CIOs and industry vendors which gives us excellent access to our target market and inside information on our competitive landscape. Kyle’s experience also includes Chief Operations Officer of OGO, a credit union focused IT disaster recovery and community cloud provider. From his COO experience he brings with him knowledge and experience on product & company acquisitions, process development & improvement skills, in depth knowledge on credit union regulatory IT needs, and experience guiding a fast-growing IT company. Beyond his key credit union industry knowledge, Kyle brings a mix of deep IT and business skills. No matter his title, his role in his more than 15 years in the IT and business world always included bridging the gap between business and IT units. This ability allows Kyle to both improve internal communication and also be a key resource for external sales and sales engineering roles. His business experience has the additional validation from his continued education focused on business leadership. He holds an Executive MBA from Colorado Technical University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Mennonite University.

Gene Fredriksen, Principal Cyber Security Consultant, Pure IT CUSO - Cyber Security Track

Gene has over thirty years of Information Technology experience, with the last twenty-five focused specifically in of Information Security. In this capacity, he has been heavily involved with all areas of Audit and Security. He specializes in credit union specific security, risk, and compliance assessments that result in strategic security roadmaps and systems design for security compliance and risk programs.

Gene serves as Chief Security Strategist for PSCU. He has also held the positions of Global CISOfor Tyco International, Principal Consultant for Security and Risk Management Strategies for Burton Group, Vice President of Technology Risk Management and Chief Security Officer for Raymond James Financial, headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Information Security Manager for American Family Insurance.

He served as the Chair of the Security and Risk Assessment Steering Committee for BITS, as well as serving on the R&D committee for the Financial Services Sector Steering Committee of the Department of Homeland Security.He also served as an advisor on various cyber security steering committees for the administration of George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, assisting in the preparation of the president’s Cyber Security Position Paper.

Gene is a member of the SC Magazine Editorial Advisory Board.He has published numerous papers and books and is a frequent speaker before audit and security audiences and has served as Chair of the St. Petersburg College Information Security Advisory Board. He is a member of multiple advisory boards for universities, organizations, and security product companies. Gene attended the FBI Citizens Academy and maintains a close working relationship with both local and federal law enforcement agencies.

David Snodgrass, President and CEO, Lake Trust Credit Union,

Upon his arrival at Lake Trust, Snodgrass’s thoughtful leadership and creativity immediately began to permeate the organization,as he cultivated the team’s passion for the member experience. As a vocal advocate and champion for the development and implementation of a Brand Promise, Snodgrass rallied Team Lake Trust to drive value for members in more meaningful and substantial ways than ever before.

Through Snodgrass’s leadership and his appetite for innovation, hundreds of initiatives over the past six years have put LakeTrust on the fast track to becoming a one-of-a-kind organization. With programs like Lake Trust U, an educational program for employees and members, and the Lake Trust Foundation, which raises money for economic empowerment in communities across Michigan, the organization has truly invested in member success. And with new products like Financial Life Planning, EasyChecking, and a new membership rewards program, Lake Trust continues to see membership grow and report sustained financial success.

In September of 2015, Snodgrass brought three existing administration locations, previously located in Plymouth, Brighton andLansing, into one Brighton headquarters, to maximize collaboration and efficiency for the organization’s workforce and members, finally uniting Lake Trust. That innovative HQ has won numerous awards and recognition across the financial industry. With a focus on social purpose, in June 2017, Lake Trust became a CDFI, the largest in Michigan and among the top 10 largest in the U.S.

Previously, Snodgrass served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Affinity Federal Credit Union in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and President and Board Member of Affinity Financial Services LLC.

Snodgrass has served as Chairman of the New Jersey Council of CUES, is a former member of Filene’s i3 Innovation Group (2006-2009); and was named among the “40 Top Executives Under 40 in New Jersey” in 2006. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Business Administration/Accounting, David also holds an MBA from LaSalle University in Philadelphia.

Currently, Snodgrass is a Chair of Mortgage Center’s Board of Directors, a Board member of CU Solutions Group, serves on the Board of Directors for LEAP, and Ann Arbor SPARK’s Executive Committee. He also serves on Filene’s CEO Council.

An active community service advocate, David trains for local road races that raise money for area charities. He has participated in the Credit Union industry-sponsored Cherry Blossom 10-mile run in Washington D.C. six times. He can also be found on the golf course, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his children and wife.
